Making Reborn Baby Dolls
Purchasing the Doll & Preliminary Steps
Go to any resale shop and buy a doll, check whether it is in good shape and condition with no cuts or marks on its body. Remove the cloths that are present on doll’s body and bathe it with dish soap. Painted hair present can be left as it is or removed if you like with the help of Acetone. Often it is a good idea to keep such painted & rooted hair of matching color and assists in filling in some of the missed out hair spots. After properly washing and cleaning the doll, remove its head as well as limbs.
Applying Paint
Next comes the paint, in this context Genesis heat set are the most suitable. You require only about a drop to be mixed with a thinner such as the no fume paint one. Begin painting the doll using skin tone color and after painting is completed put it on cookie sheet and into oven for eight minutes on 264 degrees. As the next step take vein blue color and using toothpick form veins at different places on the body of the doll. Paint the doll again after adding blush to the color. Repeat this process till color of the skin looks totally natural. Use deeper blush for bottom of hands and feet & also for cheeks.
Fix All Body Parts
After painting completes you will need to glue eyes and eyelashes if you do not like the original ones. Then fill glass sand crystals into the body slip, also fill the head, legs, body and hands. Put sand crystals in material such as nylon, tie it and put in to limbs as well as tummy. Plastic straps are provided with body slip by doll making companies, you will have to use them to attach different body pieces with body slip.
Micro Rooting the Hair
Finally you will have to start with micro rooting the hair. Warm the head in oven to make it soft and it becomes easy to insert needle in the head. You can take 2-3 strands of mohair together and put them in and if required keep one strand and pull out the other ones. This will ensure that there are no punch holes and that hair will not appear bunched. Next apply glue which is water proof from head’s inside to attach hair properly to doll.
Dress the doll nicely and you will feel surprised at the change you will see from the one you purchased from the store.
